Hair can lose its health and shine due to environmental factors or changes in the lifestyle. Although deep conditioning and oiling can help in improving the texture of hair, experts believe that a good diet can make a big difference.
Hair loss has become the most common problem today. A good diet can provide essential vitamins and minerals that ensure good health for hair. Understanding the fact, food and fashion blogger, Nadia Jalfi has brought some food items that one must integrate into their diet to improve the overall health of hair. Let’s find out!
1. Salmon: Omega-3 fatty acids
Omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial for various health-related problems in a human body. These are healthy fats that a human body cannot produce. Being anti-inflammatory, Omega-3 can help if hair shedding is caused due to inflammation. Omega-3 fatty acids prevent various diseases and boost the growth of hair. Jalfi suggests that getting Omega-3 from natural resources is the best way. These natural resources mainly include salmon, which helps the body process insulin more efficiently. Other foods that are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and can promote nourished hair are almonds, walnuts, flaxseeds and cold-water fish such as, mackerel and sardines.
2. Eggs: Protein
Human hair is made up of the protein known as keratin. Therefore, ensuring enough protein in your diet is important for lustrous and thick hair. A diet that lacks protein encourages weak and dry hair. Moreover, hair loss and restricted hair growth are mainly a result of extremely low intake of protein. People who face this problem should include foods such as eggs, chicken, fish or dairy products. Jalfi informs that egg yolk is also rich in a B vitamin called biotin, which enhances hair growth and makes them strong.
3. Spinach: Iron
Deficiency of iron in a human body is one of the crucial reasons for hair loss as it affects the hair growth cycle. Like other nutrients, iron also promotes blood supply for healthy hair. Spinach acts as a natural conditioner for hair and is iron rich. Other than iron, its green leaves contain calcium, magnesium, potassium and Omega-3 acids. All these nutrients are important for shiny and lustrous hair. It is advised to eat spinach everyday as it is one of the 8 superfoods.
4. Citrus fruits: Vitamin C
Vitamin C is one of the important nutrients that ensures a regular supply of nutrients to the hair. It prevents breakage and makes hair strong. Especially amongst the women, Vitamin C promotes hair growth with temporary hair thinning. Although oranges and lemons are considered as the only best sources of vitamin C, Nadia Jalfi informed that one guava contains properties 4-5 oranges. However, all three of them can be used for fulfillment of Vitamin C.
5. Avocado: Vitamin E
Vitamin E is an essential nutrient for hair as well as skin. It assists in guarding hair against the damage caused by the sun and repairing hair tissues, which leads to thin hair. Vitamin E helps hair follicles to work efficiently by improving blood circulation. One can include avocado in a diet as it is a good source of vitamin E. Other food items that are rich in Vitamin E are nuts, olive oil, and sunflower oil.
Other than these food items, Nadia Jalfi suggests applying hair masks made of natural ingredients.
